It's Been Quite a Year...

Wow. It's been a year since I updated this blog.  I remember last summer having issues uploading pictures to the blog and at some point I think I just gave up.

Then school started and my world was turned upside down.

I had a hard year at school.  Many teachers have told me that it is one of those "once in a career "type of bad years.  I worked with teachers that have taught for almost 20 years at difficult inner-city schools and they said they had NEVER seen anything like this group.  And this was my second year teaching.

It was the type of year that started, day one, with students screaming down the hallway, coming in my room barking, and talking back.  That was pretty much the best they were all year.  It was the type of year where I had students that, though they were in 7th grade, were the size of grown men and refused to sit in their seats, got in my face to yell at me, and made each day unbearable.

I came across an old email the other day that I sent to a colleague. I was desperate and said I didn't know if I could make it through the year.  It was dated September 9 - only one month into the school year.

But here we are- it's now June- and I made it!  I made it through a tough year.  I not only survived the year, but I am making a very exciting move to elementary next year.

Yes, I am a little scared about a new age group, and yes I am terrified to teach all of the subjects- but I will finally be doing what I wanted to do from the beginning- teach elementary!

Though it was a dreadful year, I now know that I can face any classroom challenge.  I'm looking forward to the year ahead and I know it will be a great one :)
