It's really no surprise that I was ecstatic to get my sewing machine last week! I've wanted to learn to sew forever but I especially got the bug in college...and I am finally getting started!
I got a Brother sewing machine which I absolutely love. Since I know NOTHING about sewing, I picked an electronic machine that was as simple as possible to use. I looked at reviews from all over the place and the Brother was the perfect machine for me in my price range.
My friend Blair came by to give me a quick sewing lesson. She taught me how to set up my machine (like literally how to thread a bobbin- I'm a total beginner!) and how to make a pillowcase dress. It was a lot of fun. She also brought her three little ones so they entertained Catie Grace while we were creating my first sewing project ever. Oh, and with all that going on, I still had time to make Gerry's Ah-mazingly simple french toast (comment if you want to know the recipe!)
Here are some pics of the event...

| My new sewing machine & my little helper. |
 |
| Blair took some pictures of me cutting/ironing/and sewing. I was so nervous the whole time like I would ruin it! |
 |
McKenzie & Catie Grace.
McKenzie is such a sweetheart and was so awesome to keep an eye on the kiddies while we sewed. |
 |
| I had my serious face on. |
 |
| I know I look angry but I was really concentrating hard! I even have the owner's manual out (for who knows what reason). |
 |
| So the funny thing about this picture is that the whole time I was sewing I had it on the lowest speed (which is EXTREMELY slow) but I was too scared to up the speed. We tried medium speed for about two seconds and I almost had a heart attack. Slow and steady wins the race thankyouverymuch. |

Maybe I should invest in a mani/pedi..... my nails are terrible.
And after a few hours of hard work... we had a finished product!
Before you look at these pictures...Catie Grace usually only sucks those two fingers when she is going to sleep or very tired. It was nine at night when we took this picture (she usually goes to bed about 7:30 or 8:00) so please excuse the fingers. She was a good sport!

| Ta-Da! |
 |
| Good-ness look at those legs! I think the dress was riding up because of her super fluffy/bulky nighttime diaper. |
 |
| Catie Grace was pretty happy about it! |
 |
| I couldn't ask for a cuter model. |
 |
| The finished product! I actually made something with just thread, a sewing machine, & cloth! It is wearable too! |
So- I was pretty happy with the way this dress turned out. After Blair left, I tried to make another one on my own...yeah, not as successful, but I will continue to try!
One thing I will say- get ready for self criticism- I will do much thinner ribbon on the next dresses. I think the 1.5 inch ribbon is really cute for bows but it was just too much on this tiny little dress!
I have a few other sewing projects that I can't wait to start (namely an apron and embellished burp cloths) but I will get to those in time. I also plan on working on tying bows. A few nights ago I started tying some and I realized my biggest enemy- I don't know how to properly thread a needle and knot the end. Oh the things you think are too simple to ask about until you can't do them!
I am very excited about another craft project that I am working on but I am not at a stage where I am ready to share pictures. I want to get them just right before I show the world the new things I can do, but I will tell you- they are so stinkin cute, you will want one if you have daughters! Keep coming back to see what I am up to :)
