At the end of my 15th week, Gerry and I had scheduled an early gender ultrasound. We were ready to know what to call this little one! The appointment was at 9:30 a.m., so Gerry went to work before the appointment, and I left straight from the house.
As I was leaving the house that morning, our VERY heavy storm door closed on my ankle. Really, it started to close and my ankle was in the way. The bottom of the door cut right across my achille's tendon. The door didn't even slow down! Needless to say, I had a very deep and profusely bleeding gash across the back of my foot. If Gerry would have been there, I probably would have just sat down and cried. Since I was alone, I had to put on my big girl panties and deal with it. It was a whole production to get from the front door to the bedroom where our first aid kit is. When I finally limped to the first aid kit, I realized all we had was gauze and medical tape, so that is what I used to wrap up my ankle. Honestly, I was more concerned with getting to the doctor to find out the sex of the baby!
When I got to the doctor, I informed them that I was there for an ultrasound, but that I had an accident that morning and needed a new bandage. One of the nurses took me back and instead of just putting on a new bandage, she called a doctor back to the room to look at my ankle. He told me that I would need stitches! WHAT? I came here to find out if my baby is a boy or a girl! I ended up getting four stitches. And, if you have not had stitches, it really hurts! Gerry was a champ and held my hand throughout the entire process. My mom was not as sweet about it, since she just laughed and took pictures of the procedure (I will not be posting them here!).
So, once the stitches were in place, we made our way back to the ultrasound room. As soon as the ultrasound tech started the ultrasound, the baby was flipping and jumping all over the place! What an active baby! The tech then told us that the baby was upside down and turned around, so finding out the sex was going to be a challenge. We got a lot of great pictures of the baby, but the tech couldn't be sure of what the sex would be! She announced that it was a girl, but only because she couldn't see "boy parts." We were hoping for something a little more definite, but at least we got to see our baby (maybe girl?) moving all around.
My plan was to text and email out these pictures when we found out the gender, but since it was still pretty up in the air, I just sent out a text instead of my cute pictures that I made.
